 -Saying hello:
Buongiorno! – Good morning. – hello, or good morning, or good day
Buonasera! – Good evening.
Ciao! – Hello. (familiar)
Come sta? – How are you? (formal)
Come stai? – How are you? (familiar)
Sto bene – I’m well.
E Lei? – And you? (formal)
E tu? – And you? (familiar)
Benissimo! – Very well!
Molto bene! – Very well.
Così così. – OK.
Come va? – How is it going?
Va bene – It’s going well. (also means “OK””)

signore – sir
signora – madam
signorina – miss
(remember, you don’t need to say “signore” after you say “hello” to someone you don’t know.)
examples:
to a woman: “Buongiorno, signora.”
to a young woman: “Buongiorno signorina.”
to a man: “Buongiorno.”

Scusi. - Excuse me. (asking for something, to get someone's attention, or if you bump someone)
Capisco. – I understand.
Non capisco. – I don’t understand.
Come si dice “lemonade?” – How do you say “lemonade?”
Parlo un po' d'italiano. - I speak a little Italian.
Ripeta, per favore. - Please repeat that.

-Compiti (homework)

 1.  Take a look at pages 23 through 34 in your text.  They cover what we learned in class tonight. You can either read and do the exercises on these pages (if you're interested in learning additional vocabulary and phrases), or you can read and study your notes from class, and study today's class website.

2.  Practice and memorize the conjugations of avere and essere.  (listed on page 32 and 33). Write them, and say them out loud.

3.  Use the white handout with the drawings to answer the questions on the one-page white handout which starts, "Rispondete alle domande...". Click here for the answers.

4.  Memorize the numbers in Italian, 1 through 20.  Write them out. Say them out loud! Do Practice Set 39 Part A, on page 128 in your book. (It will probably take you more than writing them out once to memorize them.)

5.  Read the back of the green handout (the dialogs we listened to in class). It has some good information. Re-read the dialogs aloud, picturing yourself at the caffè!
