"Mi piace" when one thing is pleasing to you (to say you like something)
"Mi piacciono" when more than one thing is pleasing to you. (literally, "To me are pleasing...")
"Non mi piace" when one thing displeases you (to say you don't like something)
"Mi piace sciare" - I like to ski. "To ski" is the subject. "Me" is the indirect object of the verb "piacere".
"Mi piacciono la festa e la musica." The party and the music are pleasing to me. (I like the party and the music.) The verb is plural because the subject is plural: "The party and the music" is the subject. "Me" is the indirect object of "piacere".
You say "Piacere" when you meet someone.
"Mi dispiace" when you're sorry

1. -ire verbs. Read page 154. Do Practice Set 54.
2. Che ora è? Starting on Page 142, read and do as much of Practice Set 49 as you like. Do not do exercises 54 through 59.
3. Train station "Alla stazione ferroviaria", two way translation handout. Look this over. We'll do this in class next week.
4. Dialog: Train station (green handout). Read the dialog "Lucia has to go to Padova". Read about Italian trains, and do the exercises on the top half of the back page. The bottom half is optional.
5. Preposizioni. Look at the prepositions on page 159, and see if you can translate the following sentences into English. You'll probably have to look up a few words.
