-We reviewed words that you need to know when you're looking for something, or you need something:

-Preposizioni: di, a, da, in, con, su, per, tra/fra
We did a two-way translation exercise.
We very quickly reviewed the meaning of each preposition. We'll practice these throughout the term.

-Compiti (homework). The answers to all these Practice Sets are in the back of the text. If any of the homework seems too difficult or covers material you haven't studied before (especially the two pink preposition handouts) bring your questions to class. Questions are good.

1. Write out and say aloud the conjugations for all the irregular verbs we've learned so far:

essere
avere
stare
fare
andare
dare
venire
sapere (We forgot to include this on our list in class. Its conjugation is found in Practice Set 27. Make sure you learn it. If you don't already have a verb book, irregular verbs are also listed and conjugated in the back of the text)
Also write out and say aloud the conjugations of these regular verbs: find these in Practice Sets 21, 27, 54
cercare (it's regular, but the spelling changes to preserve the hard "c" sound)
arrivare
guardare
conoscere
prendere
vedere
servire
preferire
2. Also do Practice Set 56, and memorize these irregular verbs: dare, dire, bere, uscire, salire, tenere. The sentences for exercises A and B are a little confusing. It will be a better practice if you write your own simple sentences using these verbs.
_
3. Handout (pink). Do the sixteen sentences (fill-in-the-blank). Use the back of the other pink handout to help you. (click here for the answers)
_
4. Handout (pink). Translate the paragraph "Vado in Italia con mio marito..." into English. Use some of these simple prepositions to make up your own itinerary or description of a real or imaginary trip (present tense).

Vado in Italia con mio marito.

Partiamo fra tre giorni.

Vado a Roma.

Restiamo a Roma per una settimana.

Andiamo da Roma a Napoli in treno.

Restiamo a Napoli per cinque giorni.

Andiamo da Napoli a Taormina in vaporetto.

Restiamo in Italia dal due aprile al venti aprile.

5. Make sure to check your answers before class next time. Bring any questions you may have, or you can always phone or e-mail me: 503 246 1239 or dmeyer@teleport.com
