____________________________________________________

-Gli argomenti (the topics): What we did in class, and more.

-Warmup: "Com'è andata la settimana?" We practiced the passato prossimo by asking each other how the week went, then corrected our sentences on the board. We also did the exercise "Mani, piedi, occhi" (passato prossimo).

- Imperfetto: Something that was going on, or something that you used to do. We talked about "what we did when we were young", and asked each other questions using the imperfetto.

- Il terremoto. We read and translated from an article about Silvio Berlusconi visiting the site of the earthquake in Abruzzo.

- Parole da ricordare (words to remember, words that came up in class)
fuori - outside
fiori - flowers
intitolarsi - to be titled
una palude - a swamp
un terremoto - an earthquake

-Compiti.

1. Imperfetto, passato prossimo. Read pages 200, 201.
Do esercizio A. Add the phrase that makes sense with the verb tense in the sentence.
Do esercizio B: Substitute for the verb in italics with the imperfetto of the verb in parentheses.
Do esercizio C: In order to retell the story of Judy's vacation in the past, choose which verbs will take imperfetto and which verbs will be in passato prossimo. Do your best, this one is rather difficult.
Look at esercizi D and E, and be ready to do them in class.

2. Imperfetto, passato prossimo. (ivory handout 3: "Tavole") For each one of the diagrams, there is a corresponding sentence. Try to match them. A dotted line and question mark signifies the imperfetto, because you don't know when the action (or situation) started and ended. The line segments with definite ends represent the passato prossimo, because the action has a defined beginning and end.
On the back, number 4, choose between the two tenses. Some sentences have both verbs in imperfetto, some sentences have one imperfetto and one passato prossimo.
Exercise 5, read the story and underline all of the verbs that are in the imperfetto, and circle all of the verbs that are in the passato prossimo.
Paragraph: "Era un mattino..." Fill in the blanks, using imperfetto or passato prossimo.

3. "Hotel vocabulary" (blue handout 4: vocabulary list), and (green handout 5: two dialogues at the hotel). Read the two dialogues on the green sheet, and look at the vocabulary list, then write out five to ten sentences or questions which you know would be useful to you.

Here is a link to the BBC site "Italian Steps". This particular page is about checking into a hotel, but you may find it interesting to navigate around this entire site, hearing the dialogues, and seeing how you do on the quizzes:
